I'm sorry if this is too specific, but on the off-chance that anyone is familiar with the Stanford graduate psychology program...

Would I have a dream of a chance of getting in with a 3.0 major GPA and a 3.5 cumulative? Does the cumulative even matter? This is provided I have good GRE scores, solid recommendations, and a host of extracurricular activities to do with psychology, and some undergrad research experience. And an excellent SOP.

Thank you for any insights, positive or negative!

p.s. Personal circumstances require me to stay in the Bay Area; any other good schools in the area? Does not have to be on par with Stanford. I could go as far as SF (I attend Santa Clara University right now, but they only have an MFT/counseling program), but... no other good schools in the South Bay, really, right?

Hi everyone, I'm a canadian highschool student and i'm looking for some advice.

I'm interested in fields related mostly to criminology and abnormal psychology, but i'm confused as to potential careers in those fields.

I love trying to figure out how people think, what they will do in certain situations, etc.

Any ideas for careers???

To be honest the closest I've come to finding a "match" is from watching Criminal Minds (lol.) but i'm fairly sure the job title "profiler" doesn't exist..and if it did it would be extremely limited and competitive.
I suppose a Detective/Special Agent is also really close.

Can anyone also recommend any University Courses? Or a series of Courses to get me where I want to be?

Links are appreciated

Objectum Sexuality [14 Dec 2009|08:56pm]

I'm an undergrad in a Human Sexuality class and I'm doing a paper on people who identify as objectum sexuals/objectophiliacs. It doesn't seem to be a very deeply researched subject, as I can only find a couple of peer-reviewed sources to cite. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any articles or papers that might help, even in a broad sense?

Ones I've got:

Pettman and Clemens, Relations Relations with Concrete Others

Pettman and Clemens, Avoiding the subject: media, culture and the object

Thanks in advance.

Statistician's Homesick Blues [11 Dec 2009|01:33am]

A group of us first-year grad students got together and made a quick video about our grad-level stats & research methods course:

Some lines are inside jokes, some are stats jokes, but most of it comes from Bob Dylan's original song, "Subterranean Homesick Blues."

Enjoy. :)

Hi everyone. I am trying to write a lit review based on biological association of pedophilia. I need the following articles but cant seem to find them. Can someone please help me locate these articles, or if you have another article to contribute to me dealing with pedophilia and biological associations, it would be heavily apreciated.

Treatment, 19, 395–407.

Cantor, J. M., Blanchard, R., Christensen, B. K., Dickey, R., Klassen, P. E., Beckstead, A. L., Blak, T., & Kuban, M. E. (2004). Intelligence, memory, and handedness in pedophilia. Neuropsychology, 18, 3–14.

autism [07 Dec 2009|04:56pm]

hello guys.

I am doing a presentation to make about autism with a couple of other students. my part is single cases. Like people with autism. If anyone knows some extraordinary autists or simply interesting biography reports of some autists/aspergers and where I could find articles about them, you would be of great help, as I`ve only found the most popular people, known to everyone, like Daniel Tamment and co.

thanks!

Emergency psychology [06 Dec 2009|01:04pm]

Dear collegues!

I teach research methods for future "emergency psychologists" (not sure on translation) in Moscow. They study to work with stress&trauma, and in disasters. I want to increase their motivation to do researches and my question is on student societies, conferences, summer/winter schools etc. in this area where they could apply. Do you know any ideas and links?

I want to thank the professors that i liked and helped me as well as the people at my internship before i graduate in 2 weeks. I like being eco friendly and try to give gifts that aren't just materialistic. I was thinking about baking them some dessert and sending everyone an online card..i am trying my best to get away from paper because of it's waste. i'm wondering if this is appropriate for this kind of arena. i've never really done this before so i'd like to check. if not please suggest me what else would fit in the category? thanks. :)
